Who On Earth Is That?

While preparing for our High School Girl's Bible study tonight, I ran across a scripture that I had never noticed before. Check out Hebrews 6:18-20. ..."The order of Melchizedek" was a new one on me! I can barely pronounce this name let alone figure out what it is talking about! So, I pondered it a few minutes, put away the Bible, and waited for my class to come back from music (I subbed today and took my break to prep for tonight! Nothing like waiting until the last minute!).

When I got home, I had a package in the mail!! I love getting packages!! It was a book that I had ordered by Andrew Murray, The Holiest of All. I flipped through it while grabbing a snack to share with my youngest. The pages landed on the table of contents. The name Melchizedek popped up at me! Oh, my word...this book is a study of Hebrews! I quickly flipped to the chapter on this! Coincidence...no way! I prayed to see God today, and He showed up at my house after school!! Love it!!

Melchizedek is mentioned just three times in the Bible---in Genesis, the Psalms, and Hebrews. If you have time, and you want to do a little research along with me:), see what you can find out--the significance of Melchizedek with Christ. I had just a couple of minutes to read, and I am LOVING what I am learning! It is awesome!

I HAVE to run out the door right this very second to get to Bible Study, or I'll be late--and the girls will have eaten all the food for supper! They have wonderful appetites! So, see what you can find out and post it below. I will not read your comments until I have had a chance to study it myself. I'm looking forward to seeing what y'all find out! And, for those of you shaking your head and blessing my heart because I have never heard of this man...it's OK!! I am fine with being a person of my age and still learning oodles about the Bible--it's a great adventure!

Many Blessings,

You are so cute. I've never heard of Mr. M. either. I'll have to read that in those three chapters. I'll read and post back when I can.

Hope you had a great evening.
Love ya,
Paula

I hadn't heard of Mr M either. Lots of info on him at wikipedia...lots of contrary opinions too. I'd need to do LOTS more research. Interested in what your book has to say. Here is the wikipedia info -

Oh my hubby has a whole bunch of stuff on Mr. M. I'll have to get more infromation on it. But he's got a pastor he listens to and he breaks down that entire section, and explains it. I'll have to listen to it when I get home. Very cool, how God just starts showing you something He wants to talk to you about.

I read the information on wikepedia as well. Very interesting. I never noticed his name before.

Ol' Mr. M was definately a cool guy.

He was the king of Salem. When he met Abram (later to become Abraham), he prayed a blessing over him. Mr. M was kind of like David in that he had a heart that followed hard after God. His name actually means, "king of righteousness" and being the king of Salem means he was a king of peace.

Abram was so impressed by him (and probably felt so connected to him) that he gave him a 10th of all his plunder from war. Right after receiving the blessing from Mr. M, Abram was promised a son.

Many feel that Mr. M was a little foretaste of what Christ Jesus would be like. I think those many folk are right...for my King Jesus is the King of Righteousness and Peace!

The blessing to my heart this morning as I read your post, is the fact that it is a ok with you to not know, and be learning oodles, because it shows that God is the leader in your classroom. WAY TO GO GOD!

I love ya much!!!! When we can't, HE CAN!

So glad you ordered the book - Holiest of All. And that it arrived today! Wow! He is good!

May HE continue to bless you with the truths from His Word! And that study on Hebrews in Andrew Murray's book is awesome!

Praying for your Bible study group! He will indeed give them their portion!

Susan,
I recently read Hebrews and had heard of that guy who's name I can't remember. However I don't recall if I figured anything out about him. All this talk has made me curious to check him out for myself.

Isn't is wonderful how God shows up in the most trivial ways?

Hope God blessed your girls at the study!

Blessings,
Kelli

It cracks me up to see everyone referring to him as Mr. M. Just like me, maybe they don't want to go back to your post to see how his name is spelled.

I listened to a Beth Moore study on this--as a priest, their is awesome comparisons with Jesus--being the intercessor between us and God.

That is what is so cool about blogs and reading others--we can be encouraged to dig a little in our Bibles!

Oh My Sister, God is always on time!! Glad you are learning along with the girls... I have often been taught more than the students.
Interesting Study, Indeed!!!
