Taste and See Friday

"Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. Fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing." Psalm 34:8-10

I love this scripture! It teaches and reminds us so much in just 3 sentences. "Blessed is the man/woman who takes refuge in him." The Hebrew word for refuge is chacah. It means "to flee for protection." Do we flee to the Lord first when we are upset or fearful? Some turn to food or even a lack of food. Others escape with extreme exercise. Or, some simply vent about it to husbands or BFF's . After telling them about our issues, do we finally take them to God as an after thought? God truly wants us to go to Him first. We need to lay our burdens down. He is so good. He is ready to comfort us if only we will tell Him our fears or issues. Y'all, He ALREADY knows what we're upset about! He's Omniscient!!

Since the beginning of the scripture tells us to "taste and see," I wanted to see what you have tasted lately that was just delicious!! Please include the recipe!! That way, those of us struggling with what to cook over the weekend will have some ideas!! Thanks so much!! This should be fun!!
Dianne's Taco Dip

Layer these items in order:

1 can refried beans

1 block of cream cheese (fat free is fine!)--I cut mine into slices to cover the beans

1 jar of salsa

1 can chopped green chilies

grated cheese on top (I use a 5 cheese Mexican blend--or whatever is in the refrigerator!

I place these in a 9-13 pyrex dish coated with Pam. Bake on 350 for 20 minutes or until bubbly. This dip is great with chips or alone--heehhee!!! Feel free to add ingredients or take away according to what your family will eat!

Seeking the Lord!

Girl, Ziti, now Taco dip! I love you.lol

We love a 7 Layer Nacho Dip. It's so good, but I only make it every so often because we can go through the whole Pyrex dish! Can we say, WAY too many calories!

1 lb. hamburger meat or turkey meat
1 pckg Taco Seasoning
1 can refried beans
1 pckg shredded cheese - Ched or Tex Mix
2 small cans or 1 large Black Olives- sliced
1 Large or 2 Med tomatoes sliced
1 container Sour Cream
1-2 cups Salsa
3 stalks Green Onion

Brown meat on stove-top, drain grease and add Taco seasoning mix w/ a bit of water. Cook for a few minutes, then add Refried beans and cook until they bubble a little. Place in a Pyrex deep circle bowl(don't know what you would call it.LOL) Then layer on top of that, cheese, black olives, tomatoes, SCream, Salsa and Scallions.

You can take any of those things out, and you can also add in Guacamoli. Can use reduced fat or low fat in any of the ingredants if you choose. Eat with Tostito's... the best are the Scooping ones, but any will work.

Susan, just yesterday I wrote about how the Lord was reprimanding the people in Jerusalem. He said, "you never ask for help from the One who did all this. You never considered the One who planned this long ago." (Is. 22:11)

"Never" is a pretty strong word. Not ever. Not at all. At no time in the past or future. Not in any circumstances. You never ask. You never considered. Running our own race. Going ahead with no thought of inquiring of the Lord. Taking control of the reins and then desiring God to bless our attempts. Plans fail for lack of counsel...His counsel.

Needing to go to the Lord FIRST, not FINALLY!

As for a recipe...well girlfriend...I'm up a creek without a paddle on that one! If the criteria is something "delicious"...well...can't really help you. The kitchen and I aren't always friends. I'm hoping to just glean from what others submit here today.

Culinarily challenged,
Joy

We're grilling out tonight and the taco dip will be a perfect appetizer! Thanks for sharing.

Boy have I lived everything you wrote about in the first paragraph. Having a daughter that had an eating disorder, my life for about 3 years was all about food, but God is the great Physician! There is hope and healing in Him.

We do need to turn to God first and lay all our needs at his feet.

Oh my goodness ... how to choose? I've tasted so-o-o-o many yummy things in recents days/weeks I hardly know where to begin. I'm going to have to think on this a bit (and when I've got more than a few minutes to select, cut/paste).

Let me just say, too, that my tastiest morsels always come from God's word!

Be blessed,
Kathleen

You know, this is one of Debbie's favorite verses...which makes me think of her and our time together at She Speaks.

The recipe looks yummy! I'll have to try it.

We're leaving for our mission trip on Tuesday, so if I don't stop by before then, have an AWESOME time at She Speaks!!!!

Here's something fast and easy for summer!

Ice Cream Pie

Use whatever size freezer safe dish will suit your family size. Put a layer of ice cream sandwiches side by side until the bottom of the dish is covered. Then cover with a large tub of Cool Whip. (or small if your dish is small) Crush some malted milk balls OR a Heath candy bar and sprinkle on top. Drizzle a little chocolate syrup on top and put in freezer for a couple of hours. Take out and ENJOY!

We love this!

Susan, I'm walking a mile and a half every morning but don't think I will ever advance to running like you and Elaine! :)

God bless!

Frank's Hot sauce or any hot sauce that you prefer....to taste
Garlic to taste
Lemon or lime juce- 1-2 squirts

Have a great weekend!

Susan,
Here's a favorite every time I make it. Especially good in summer. I usually make 1/2 this recipe. It's plenty!

Can't wait to meet you at She Speaks. btw-I tried to email the other address you gave me & it didn't go through, so I sent you an email to the 1st address I had. Not sure if you got it. I'll try again!
Susan

AVOCADO and TOMATO SALAD
2 or 3 firm Haas Avocados
2 16oz pkgs. Grape Tomatoes sliced in two
2 16oz pkgs. Mozzarella Cheese cut up in 1 in pieces
2 whole sections of Scallions chopped small
1 handful of chopped Dill
1 large clove of Garlic minced
2 Tbls. Extra virgin oil
White pepper to taste – it is not sharp like black pepper

Mix the tomatoes, cheese, scallions, dill, garlic, oil and pepper in a large bowl. Keep refrigerated.

The avocado needs to be firm, but not hard as a rock. Usually if you keep it one day after you buy it, that’s about right. Peel them last so they don’t get soft.

Cut into decent sized pieces. If you make them too small, they will get mushy. Add the avocado last. Toss with the rest of the ingredients and store in the refrigerator in a 2qt covered container.

If you try fresh mozzarella, remember that it is not as firm as regular packaged cheese. You can experiment by adding other ingredients to this salad.
(I add lightly cooked asparagus cut into 1" pieces)
Bon Appetit!!

Braces were adjusted so it's soft food but I have a garden for the first time in many many moons.

SO this week I fixed a delicious squash casserole as well as zucchinni brownies. I had left over frosting and since I went to the orthodontist yesterday...the last two nights I've put that chocolate "cook" frosting on my ice cream. DELISH!

Love to you,
Yolanda

Fleeing for protection tonight! Yes, our Lord is good, regardless of all the chaos going on around us.

As for what I've been eating as of late, you don't want to know and you can be sure I haven't cooked it!
