Gettin' Ready for Dorm Life!!

You're looking at this lion's face and wondering what on earth does this cutesy lion have to do with college?!! Have the heat and humidity have gotten to Runner Mom!! Well, that IS true, but this adorable lion's face was on a plastic sorority cup that a friend of mine gave me. She asked if I could paint this on a coffee table that she purchased at a yard sale for $5.00!! Remember those darlin' butler tray coffee tables that were usually in a cherry finish? My sister had one in the 90's, and I simply loved it. Well, I guess the owner of this one got tired of it and spray painted it black! It was not bad, just boring.

I purchased some black paint from Lowe's--they now have the sample cans of Valspar for $3.99!! Love that!! I slapped on a few coats to TRY and smooth out the bumps and bulges--remembering that this was going in a dorm room, not a living room!

Then, I took my regular dinner plate and traced a perfect circle in the center of the table. I added the fun details and then, the polka dots! I took a round sponge brush (Wal-Mart) and painted a plethora of dots using her room and sorority colors. Y'all, this project was simply TOO fun!!! After it dried, I put a sealer on--Minwax, of course!! This is a semi-gloss for the table. Hopefully, it will keep stadium cups that sweat from dripping onto the cute lion's face!!

And no, I didn't replace the brass hinges that don't look like brass anymore--college room!!
(Yes, I worked on it outside just in case the fumes were a little strong!!) So, my table for this precious girl is done, and I just need to deliver it!! I will now have a few dollars to spend at She Speaks...which is in just a few weeks!!! I am so excited about going this year. I attended last year, and I have to say, it was one of the BEST conferences I have ever attended!! Prayerfully consider this for next summer, y'all.
Sweet Blessings!!

Oh my! That is sooo cute! I wish I knew what to do with paints. I would love to get my daughter and I into it together. There are so many little treasure out there that could use some love and attention in the form of arts! I'm a yard sale lover myself!

I hope I get to meet you at She Speaks, Susan.

See what happens when you try to "edit" yourself? You end up deleting your name. Have mercy!

Cute table worthy of some spending $. I wish you could record your talk at She Speaks. I'll definitely be thinking about you.

Better go, mom is busy circling all my "danglings" and needs some input!

Very cute. You are gifted for sure.

I can't believe your Lowe's charges you $3.99 for the sample cans of Valspar. They are free here and should be across the country as the Lowe's commercials have talked about them being free. I had no idea they gave the samples free until I heard the commercial. You might ask them why they charge when the Lowe's commercial states free. I've received two or three free ones...never at the same time nor for the same project.

Hi Susan !
That table turned out very cute and looks like the mug - only cuter ! Great job !
Thanks for looking at my blog...My Canon (I got about 6 weeks ago) is the new T1i. I had about 3 film Rebels and point and shoot digitals, this is my first SLR Digital. I have taken two classes- which were great. I want to take more in the future. I am having a blast and now really want to save up again for a macro lense (they are pricey !) I can really tell after taking the class which pictures I just do the auto mode and which ones I mess with the manual - I need major more practice ! It is nice to have another blogger with a Canon :o)
Hugs and have a blast at your conference !

Thanks for your very sweet comments. Yes, we did have one of those little plastic pools. It seemed it took forver to fill it up with the water hose, but we loved it and couldn't wait to jump in! Those long summmer days running around barefoot seemed to last forver.

I grew up just south of Raleigh in Clayton, NC. We lived on a farm and Clayton back then was a very small town, but now it has grwon quite a bit due to the growth in Raleigh. We moved to Charlotte in '97 with my husband's job and now this is home for us. There are days when I really miss it there. We go back as often as we can! :)

Take care and have a great day!

Oh my goodness that is so stinkin cute!!! You are so creative.

I Loved reading on my blog today that you are in a good place - where God wants you to be. I know it's hard to say no but isn't it great to be available to say yes when He tells you to. Aren't you glad when you can b/c you didn't fill your life with yes's before those "God" things came?

Keep on keeping on girl. Love running this race with such cool and creative Jesus girls like you!
